My name is Peter Robinson. I’m of Celtic ancestry and from the country called Scotland which is part of the United Kingdom (UK). Unfortunately, Scotland has been colonised a number of times and then many of my ancestors have gone on to colonize other lands and the trauma rolls on.
I work as a Psychotherapist and Psychotherapy Supervisor in independent practice mainly with adults and also with couples. Previously, I worked as a Psychotherapist in the National Health Service (NHS) for over 20 years and taught Psychotherapy to Psychiatrists and also Clinical Psychologists in training via the University of Edinburgh for over 12 years. I’m formally trained in a number of different psychotherapies.
In the past I’ve developed many parenting programmes in mental health settings. I’ve also been involved in developing multi-family therapy groups where the family members are experts for each other.
Given the Dominant Worldview’s exploitative, parasitic and destructive impact on the planet and all living beings, in my field, I think that moving toward decolonizing and re-indigenizing therapy is an essential alternative. Therefore, I was very excited to come across the Kinship Indigenous Worldview and the Evolved Nest and to recently complete the Evolved Nest Ambassadors Programme.
To spread the word around the World about the Evolved Nest, currently, my colleague and I are developing ways of incorporating the Evolved Nest into our therapeutic practice, presenting at various Psychotherapy Training events including the forthcoming World Congress Conference in 2026 and exploring how we can influence psychotherapy training programmes, as well as engage with our local community. We’re also guest editors for the forthcoming ‘Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy’ which focuses on ‘Kinship Indigenous Worldview and Oral Traditions informed Systemic Therapy Practices’.
